<image:title>Home - I am now offering in person sessions on Mondays and Tuesday!</image:title>
<image:caption>samsperlingtherapy@hushmail.com (267) 754-2660 I am licensed to meet with clients living in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. I support individuals in making peace with their traumatic experiences and turning down the volume of their chronic pain. Traumatic experiences can have a lasting impact. They can lead to you feeling on high alert and having a difficult time quieting your mind. It can feel frustrating when you believe that you should be able to move forward with your life, but are having a hard time doing so. Our brains and bodies aren’t always in sync with one another. Sometimes you have aches and pains that you can’t completely explain, and medical treatments will help for a bit, but never fully resolve the issue. If any of the above resonates with you, then you are in the right place.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Therapy is a place to feel heard, be who you are and be accepted for it. As a therapist, I will see you for who you are and affirm that. Many individuals have been told their lived experiences are not real. You may have been told your pain is all in your head, when you know what you are feeling is indeed real. I may be the therapist, but you are the expert of you. We will work together to address the issues that brought you to therapy. I will engage with you and I promise you will not be speaking to a brick wall. In our work, some strategies may feel like that they land better for you and I will always respect that and encourage you to provide feedback. Mindfulness will be a part of our work. Listening to our bodies, knowing our limits and developing coping strategies are all important steps. Our work will always proceed at a pace that feels right to you. As a 200 hour yoga teacher, I enjoy incorporating yoga therapy, movement and breath exercises into our sessions. I am offering services virtually at this time. I am located in the Roxborough and Manayunk neighborhoods of Philadelphia.</image:caption>

      <image:title>About - samsperlingtherapy@hushmail.com (267) 754-2660</image:title>
<image:caption>Hello and welcome to my website! I received my Masters of Social Work from the School of Social Policy and Practice at the University of Pennsylvania in 2016. Since then, I have worked as a Case Manager, Therapist, Clinical Supervisor and now a Social Worker at Jefferson Health's Department of Psychiatry. I became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in 2019. I am trained in Eye Moment Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy, which is an evidence-based form of treatment for Trauma. EMDR is also helpful for treating Anxiety, Depression, Grief and Addictions. Additionally, I have training in EMDR for chronic pain and Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT). Combining EMDR with PRT has been helpful for treating chronic pain for myself and my clients. As a LGBTQ+ therapist in Philadelphia, I have a lot of experience working with LGBTQ+ individuals, including running a Queer Support Group and interning at the Attic Youth Center (a multi-service organization for LGBTQ+ teens and young adults). I also provided case management services to individuals living HIV and AIDS. I go by he/him/his pronouns.</image:caption>

      <image:title>EMDR - Rapid Eye Movement Therapy (EMDR)</image:title>
<image:caption>The impacts of trauma can linger even after the traumatic incident has technically “ended”. Some people struggle with being in noisy places, some struggle with driving, and others struggle with intimacy. EMDR Treatment or Eye Movement Desenization and Reprocessing Therapy (I know, it’s a mouthful) is an evidence-based form of therapy with an individualized approach, that helps clients work through traumatic incidents and other diagnoses like grief, anxiety, depression and chronic pain. The premise of EMDR Therapy is to process your belief about what a traumatic memory says about YOU and to change that from a negative cognition to a positive one. That begs the question, why would I want to relive a traumatic experience? Think of it this way: imagine that you are driving your car through dirt and mud and it gets all over your windshield. Instead of using your wipers or going to a car wash, you just leave the debris there. You can continue to drive, but the visibility isn’t great and it takes much more effort to navigate your car safely. Trauma is similar in that you can continue to navigate your world after a traumatic incident, but it can feel much more complicated and exhausting. In this example, think of the therapist as your co-captain, being there with you, while using EMDR Trauma Therapy to work through the trauma at a pace that feels safe to you.</image:caption>

<image:title>Pain Reprocessing Therapy - Therapy for Pain Management</image:title>
<image:caption>Pain is multifaceted. Yes, physical pain is real and is not only in your head, but stress, Depression and Anxiety can exacerbate the pain as we experience it. During our time together, we will work on “turning down the volume” so that you are able to live a fulfilling, active life. I have also received training in providing therapy for pain utilizing EMDR. By combining different modalities of treatment for chronic pain, I have changed my relationship with chronic pain and I am hopeful that the same can happen for you. I am also certified in Pain Reprocessing Therapy, which pulls from CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and Mindfulness to help individuals change their relationship with their pain. I have received this form of therapy, after living with pain for over 10 years, and have found it to be extremely beneficial for chronic pain management. I feel that it can be very helpful to receive the treatments you are endorsing before providing them to others.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Therapy for the LGBTQ+ Community - LGBTQ+ Therapy</image:title>
<image:caption>Working with LGBTQ+ individuals is the reason I decided to become a social worker. As a LGBTQ+ psychotherapist, I am motivated to create a space for non-hetero and/or non-cis people to feel safe in being their most authentic selves. When meeting with me, I promise you will not have to educate me on pronouns and different types of sexual identities. In addition to being an LGBTQ-friendly therapist, my space is also open to kink, polyamorous and sex work communities.</image:caption>
